Writing Using Both Sides Of The Brain

When you are writing it is important to use both sides of the brain. Getting the creative idea and then using the logic side of the brain to explain the details of the story can make your stories more believable and more engaging to the reader.

Lean too far to the right and creative side and the story starts to wander all over the place. Lean too far to the left and logical side and your story takes on too many boring facts and becomes more difficult for you to write.

So how do you find a balance? Usually you can tell when the story seems to wander and there is no sequence of events. You might be coming in the door and in the next paragraph eating dinner. Well, what happened between these two events?

On the other hand you could give so many details about the events between the door and eating that the reader says alright already let's get on with the story.

Just read over your story line and see how your events flow together and you will immediately improve the quality as well as the content in your story line.

Finding your own flow can help you be a more productive writer and also enjoy the process more each time you write. give yourself enough structure so you can share your story line with others in such a way that they want to read more of what you want to write. Best of both for each of you. When you can enjoy writing and your reader can enjoy reading your work you have so much more satisfaction in the writing process and will want to do more.

Use this to your advantage when you are sharing with others. Get feedback from others about if they liked your story and what parts they liked best about your work. Then use this information to help you get even better at sharing. It can become so much fun that you might have to set a timer so you don't get so involved with your writing that you miss appointments.

Then try recording your story as you read it out loud. Play it back and see if there are any parts that seem to drag to you as you are listening. Then it's tweak again and read and record again. A great way to build your skill quickly and involve both sides of your brain to help you along the way. You might even consider podcasting your story after you like what you are hearing.

Wonderful article. I also write about writing with both sides of the brain. I am looking for information that tells me about using audio recordings and does that count as journaling and what part of the brain that uses.
